For those with less than perfect skin, knowing that technological advancements will help you fix pretty much anything is a comfort. At the EF Medispa on the King’s Road, there is a menu of virtually anything you might choose to boost your health and confidence.

I went for a consultation with the guru in charge, Esther, as I have been constantly tired, travelling a lot for work and it is taking its toll on my skin. Also, after years of decadently lying in the sun or skiing in the cold weather, the appearance of unsightly red marks had appeared on my cheeks and I wanted them gone!

Esther told me that all it would take to remove these was a treatment of IPL Skin Rejuvenation, a light laser treatment that is used to clear skin irregularities and rebuild collagen, but that if I was serious about making my body function better and thus my skin would improve in the long term, I would have to do more than that.

She recommended drinking a complete greens balance in the mornings, making sure I eat more vegetables/fruit and that a colonic would be great to clear out the toxins (she called it the best facial you can have).

So, with more than I had bargained for, I put myself in their capable hands and booked in.
First up was a colonic, which I was more than a little scared to do. After meeting with Victoria Cooper, who talked me through the procedure and gave a thorough consultation, I was feeling better.

She explained how the treatment cleanses the body of any unnecessary waste and toxins which can have been stored thanks to anything from stress, poor diet or no exercise, among other causes.

After a few days, I felt a lot more alive, less sluggish and slept a lot better – as well as my face looking brighter.
Then it was time to get rid of those red marks! IPL is great for skin conditions that range from sun spots and pigmentation to red veins and rosacea and although it stings a little bit, is relatively painless in relation to the incredible results.

For the little red/spider veins that were on my cheeks, the IPL works to close them down and increase collagen in the skin so it looks clearer and brighter.  I was expecting it to hurt a lot when the light pulses hit my face but it was a little bit uncomfortable rather than painful and over really quickly. Afterwards, my face felt a little tender and red but this went down within a few hours.

It has been a few weeks since the IPL treatment and the red marks have reduced in size rather than completely gone but the consultant did say that sometimes you need more than one treatment so I will be going back to see what follow-ups I need to do!
